Basket is a very special basket because of it's shape and because of
it having the matching lid. Judy does not make alot of baskets with
lids. Creating the lid is a task in itself. First of all, it is just like
making another entire basket. The sequence of the beads must
accent or match the bottom basket and most of all, it must fit
exactly onto the existing basket. The basket is woven (twined) with
2 & 3 ply waxed linen, silk variegated thread and glass beads. Beads
on the lid are exact matches to the beads on the bottom, except that
they are smaller. The top is woven so that there is a "knob" with
which to lift the top. The beads create the puckers that accentuate
both the bottom and the lid. All of the beads used are glass and are
size 8/0, 11/0, and 15/0. The silk thread is hand painted with dyes
to make the beautiful colors. The beads match the colors in the
threads. The bottom and the top portion together create a sassy
look to the basket. The basket contains a total of 726 beads and
both the basket and the lid each have 96 spokes. This is a truly
unique basket and lid and is a one of a kind. It took approximately 4
days to make the basket, start to finish and was completed on Sept.
10, 2001. The basket with the lid measures 3-1/4" high and 3-1/4"
wide at the widest point. The lid is 2-1/4" wide.
